BEST LOCATIONS FOR HAND SANITIZER GEL

BATHROOMS:  A 2016 survey of more than 1,000 adults found 67% of participants admitted to skipping soap and just rinsing with water. While 82% said they had seen others skip washing their hands, as well. This makes it even more critical to offer hand sanitizer in the restroom. If workers are in a rush and don’t think to stop and use soap and water, providing a backup option near sinks and doors helps offer extra protection from germs escaping the restroom.

ENTRY WAYS & EXITS:  One doorknob could potentially be the cause of a widespread disease in the workplace. In fact, a report by CBS, showed that within 2-4 hours, a virus placed on a doorknob was picked up by 40-60% of workers and visitors within the facility. In addition to disinfecting doorknobs often, light switches and other high-touch surfaces, make sure to provide a hand sanitizing station near exits and entrances to limit the spread of infection.

FOOD COURTS, BREAK ROOMS, CAFETERIAS:  A common hotspot for office germs is often the kitchen and break room. You can imagine that if food is consumed with germ-covered hands, it’s easy to ingest germs and become infected with various illnesses. Although hand sanitizer is not a replacement for hand washing, it can help reduce germs in those areas.

MEETING ROOMS:  Employees, their clients and visitors often pack into meeting rooms within close proximity, often exchanging hand shakes and thus swapping germs (although post-COVID shaking hands is highly discouraged). Providing guests and employees with an easy access to hand sanitizer, either near the meeting room door or at a table, allows them to safeguard their hands against germs before and after the meeting takes place.

EMPLOYEE DESKS:  Mobile phones, desktops, office phones,  computer keyboards and mice are key germ location transfer points because people touch them very often. Considering that employees spend the majority of their day at their desks where they also eat, drink, as well as cough and sneeze, desks can become another frequent area where germs reside. Keeping individual hand sanitizer gels at desks keeps hand hygiene within reach.

TRANSACTION COUNTERTOPS:  PLOS ONE published a study where researchers swabbed $1 bills from a bank & discovered 100’s of microorganism species living on them. Further research has shown pathogens such as E. coli, salmonella, and staphylococcus aureus to be present on paper money, which all could lead to serious illness. Keeping hand sanitizers near transaction counters, such as at the cafeteria check-out, reminds people to engage in good hand hygiene.

Stay safe!
