Comparing Neutrogena Hydro Boost to Avon Anew Hydra Fusion – Complete Review With Comparison

As you know, Neutrogena has a popular, and effective, line of hydrating cleansers, serums, creams and treatments. These generally cost $19.99 per product. So if you just get a cleanser, moisturizer and eye cream that’s $50 already.

In Avon brochure 20 in September 2018, Avon introduced a competing line of products called Anew Hydra Fusion, offering similar benefits. Each line offers comparable products with a few differences. They are also similar in price but most often you can catch a sale on Avon’s products bringing the cost down.

Let’s begin with the most alike products: Both lines have Hydrating Serum, Micellar Water, Gel Cream and an Eye product.

Neutrogena and Avon both offer a Gel Cream product, both containing hyaluronic acid. We will begin with comparing the gel creams.

Neutrogena describes their Gel Cream as a “fragrance-free, lightweight gel-cream that instantly quenches and continuously hydrates skin. Formulated with hyaluronic acid, it boosts hydration and locks it in so skin stays hydrated, smooth and supple day after day.” It contains:

  • Purified Hyaluronic Acid – Naturally found in skin, it delivers pure boost of hydration. It acts like a sponge for dry skin cells, absorbing up to 1000 times its weight in water and progressively releases water back into skin, keeping skin hydrated and supple throughout the day.
  • Olive Extract – Known for its protective, moisturizing and antioxidant qualities, it is a complex combination for fatty acids, which is similar to skin’s natural moisture shield.

Avon describes their Anew Hydra Fusion Gel Cream as a “collection of skin care that both hydrates AND defends. A revolutionary combo of power-packed ingredients infuses skin with instant, deep and lasting hydration, plus defends it from environmental stressors. The water-like gel absorbs instantly making skin appear smoother, refreshed and plumped with hydration.” It is often on sale for $17.99. (It retails for $32 but most often is on sale for far less.)

It contains:

  • Hyaluronic acid, a super hydrator naturally found in skin and lost over time that holds more than 1,000 times its weight in water so skin looks smooth, refreshed and vibrant
  • Raspberry antioxidant, a potent ingredient that helps defend skin from environmental stressors to keep skin looking healthy and glowing

Conclusion: So the major difference here in these two gel creams is that one contains olive extract and the other raspberry, both of which are included for their antioxidant properties.

They also both offer a hydrating Serum. The “Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Serum instantly absorbs to quench skin and deliver higher hydration levels for fully hydrated skin that glows day after day. Hyaluronic Acid acts as a sponge for dry skin cells, moisturizing with up to 1,000 times its weight in water. Get extra hydration when used with other Neutrogena Hydro Boost products.” Regular $19.99

Avon Anew Hydra Fusion “is the first to bring cutting-edge microbubble technology to the mass market with the Replenishing Serum. Over 10,000 microbubbles deliver a pure and potent form of raspberry antioxidant. The powerful yet lightweight formula infuses skin with deep hydration. Instantly* 89% of women felt dry skin was replenished.” Also contains hyaluronic acid. Often on sale for $22.99.

It would appear that the best selling product from the Hydro Boost line is the hydrating Water Gel Cream which you can get on Amazon.

Hydra Fusion Micellar Water & In-Shower Mask

Comparing Micellar Water & Cleansers

Both lines also feature Micellar Water. Neutrogena says theirs “removes even waterproof makeup without stripping. This micellar water face cleanser removes even waterproof makeup, purifies and revitalizes skin in one simple step. Suitable for all skin types including sensitive skin, this facial cleanser deeply cleanses by targeting 100% of impurities, leaving skin soft and healthy looking.” For $10.99

Hydra Fusion Cleansing Micellar Water offers a, “cleansing micellar water that gently yet effectively lifts dirt, oil and makeup while boosting skin’s hydration. Panthenol enhances skins hydration. Tocopheryl Acetate vitamin E provides antioxidant benefits. Oil free, alcohol free.” On sale for $7.99. (Regular price says $14 but, again, most often these products on are on sale.)

Another difference is that Neutrogena offers a cleansing gel which sounds a lot like the micellar water in that “Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Cleansing Gel with hyaluronic acid is clinically proven to increase skin’s hydration level and lock it in. Boost hydration for soft, supple skin. Effectively removes makeup and impurities.” It is around $8.00 on Amazon.

As far as as regular cleansers go, Neutrogena also has a Hydro Boost Gentle Exfoliating Facial Cleanser with Hyaluronic Acid. It is just a standard exfoliating cleanser. Sells for about $10.95 of Amazon.

While Avon does not offer a cleansing gel or exfoliating cleanser, they do offer a unique product described as an In-Shower Mask, effectively taking the place of a moisturizer. You use your own cleanser. “Just splash the liquid mask on your wet, cleansed face to lock in moisture. Skin will feel hydrated instantly and all day. The in-shower face mask is perfect for a morning ritual to energize your skin.” It “sales” for $14.99.

Comparing Eye Creams & Serums

Last, but not least, they also both offer an eye cream or serum. Neutrogena’s “Hydro Boost Eye Gel-Cream is a fragrance-free, lightweight gel-cream that instantly quenches and continuously hydrates skin around the eye area. Formulated with hyaluronic acid, it boosts hydration and locks it in all day and is specially designed to smooth the skin around the eye area. Applies effortlessly, absorbing quickly into skin without leaving behind an oily or greasy feel.” Price $19.99.

However, Avon’s “De-Puffing Eye Serum” is a fast-absorbing eye serum that instantly helps de-puff and hydrate the delicate under-eye area while reducing the appearance of bags and fine, dry lines.” So if you have an issue with puffy under eyes, this might be your answer. $17.99
• Contains hyaluronic acid
• Contains raspberry antioxidant

Other Differences:

Avon has now added a new day lotion with SPF 50, the Anew Hydra Fusion Daily Beauty Defense, as well as a night time treatment called Hydra Fusion Nighttime Facial Treatment. The combination is touted to both hydrate and defend. (Note: Neutrogena does offer a “City Shield” Water Gel with SPF 25.)

The Beauty Defense Day lotion is an ultra-lightweight, quickly absorbed lotion with SPF 50. The Night Time Facial Treatment is formulated with hyaluronic acid + raspberry antioxidant to intensely hydrate and help defend skin from environmental stressors while repairing your skin while visibly re-plumping it with 3X more moisture as you sleep.

What’s The Verdict?

If you were to buy the Neutrogena cleanser, gel cream, micellar water and eye cream it would cost $59.96, so just under $60. If you were to get the Avon Hydra Fusion gel cream, micellar water, in-shower mask and eye serum it would cost $58.96, again just under $60. One uses olive and the other raspberry in which the differences are minimal. Neutrogena offers an exfoliating cleanser while Avon offers a day lotion and night time facial treatment. However, when it comes to the eye area, if you suffer from puffy under eyes, then the (award winning) Avon De-Puffing eye serum might be the better choice for you. Both companies produce high quality products and both lines have excellent reviews. Avon does offer sales quite often though, which can bring down the price of their products considerably, which is something to take into account as it will tend to save you money over the long run.
